The GALAXY Programme is a large, comprehensive, long-term and evolving global research initiative sponsored by AstraZeneca.

The GALAXY Programm has three main objectives:

  • To build on current thinking to address important unanswered questions in statin research.
  • To address unanswered questions in statin research
  • To investigate the impact of CRESTOR™ (rosuvastatin) on cardiovascular risk reduction, and hence patient outcomes.

All clinical studies within the GALAXY Programme evaluate the effects of CRESTOR, are related to cardiovascular risk reduction and are considered to have global relevance.

The name GALAXY was chosen as an umbrella theme to encompass the planetary / celestial names chosen as acronyms for the individual studies (e.g. STELLAR, MERCURY, METEOR, COMETS and ORION). It also reflects the ground-breaking and exploratory nature of this innovative research programme.

CRESTOR is a trademark of the AstraZeneca group of companies.
